Osaka
Airport Information
Kansai International Airport, a man-made island
built on sinking seabed 5 kilometers (3 miles) from shore, handles
about 20 million passengers a year. Since this is Japan, you
can expect efficient rail service to any part of Osaka - the
distance is about 50 kilometers to the city center.
If convenience is your priority, you can take
the "Haruka" express trains, which will whisk you downtown in
50 minutes for about 2,900 yen. If you're headed for Kyoto, the
ride will take 75 minutes.
By taxi, it takes an hour to get from the airport
to the city, longer when traffic is bad. Fare to downtown Osaka
costs 19,000 yen.
There is an airport bus service that can take
you to Osaka's main rail station for only 1,700 yen. If you're
headed to Kobe, there's a high-speed jetfoil that will shuttle
you across the bay in 27 minutes. The round-trip fare, including
bus service to central Kobe, is 4,560 yen. More information about Kansai International Airport
