Most
of Auckland's unique places and major attractions are
within half an hour of the central city. Whether you rent
a car, catch a bus or board a ferry, you'll quickly be
where you want to be.
Auckland airport is 21km south-west of the city centre.
A free shuttle service operates between the international
and domestic terminals. The Airbus Shuttle runs a scheduled
service every 20 minutes between the airport and Downtown
Auckland and calls at most major hotels. The approximate
cost is $13 per person. Door-to-door shuttles also operate
to and from the airport for approximately $15 for one
person and $20 for two. A taxi to/from the airport will
cost around $40.
With
someone in the passenger's seat to navigate, driving yourself
to the city or around Auckland is quite straightforward.
You can rent almost any type of vehicle, from budget compacts
to stylish convertibles. There are plenty of rental car
companies within a 10 minute stroll of the downtown area.
If you're not collecting your rental car at the airport,
catch a taxi or book yourself onto an airport shuttle
bus. Ask at the Visitor Information Centre.
Transport
around the heart of Auckland is as easy as jumping on
the Link Bus. Circulating both clockwise and anticlockwise
around the inner city area, the Link Bus service can take
you from the city to Parnell, Newmarket, Grafton, Karangahape
Road, Ponsonby and back. Hop on the Explorer Bus for sightseeing
and to see the big 14 attractions in Aucklandcity.
To
get to the seaside suburb of Devonport, or to one of the
Hauraki Gulf's beautiful islands, catch a ferry from the
historic Ferry Buildingat the bottom of Queen Street.
Renting a motorhome is a great way to get transport and
accommodation rolled into one. There are excellent, inexpensive
camping grounds throughout the Auckland region - they
all welcome motorhomes. Shop around to get a good deal.
Auckland
has an extensive public transport system. You can reach
any suburb by catching a bus from the central city. There's
also a train network, which can be accessed from the railway
station at the bottom of Parnell.
